In a small church service in West Virginia on May 10, 1908 their Sunday Service gave birth to the American version of Mother’s Day. We pay homage to the millions of mothers across the world to acknowledge the role they played in our lives.
This year, marks the 101st year of the event, started by Anna Davis. The first Mother’s Day was a small-scale, personalized holiday that had originally been envisioned.
The first “official” service took place at the Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church in Grafton, West Virginia. At this church, Anna Jarvis honored her loving mother, who had been a Sunday School teacher at the location.
By 1914, President Woodrow Wilson had set aside the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.
Today is a very special day as we honor our mothers. Spend time together with her and with family as this is the significance of the day.
On behalf of The Filipino Executive Council, its Officers and the Member Associations my very best wishes and congratulations to all mothers.
