Pres. R. Luyun

Thanks to all of you who attended our Grand Independence Ball.  What a wonderful way to celebrate both of the 117 years of our Philippine Independence and the memorable 40th Anniversary of the FECGP.

Founded 40 years ago, our Council have proven to be strong, viable and responsive to the needs of our community. Fitting to the occasion, our former presidents were honored with the “Leadership Excellence Achievement” awarded to them during the ceremony to recognize their excellent efforts as leaders of the Council.

I find it a privilege to thank all the past presidents for their contributions to making our Council very strong and vibrant despite so many challenges that it faced through the years. Every past president made his or her mark in our Council’s history with their unique approaches and programs that defined their presidency.

Looking at the vantage point of where we are now, I share the feeling of most that there is a need for us to strengthen and to continually cultivate and encourage good leaders to ascend the leadership of our Council.  What the future will be, rests in the hand of our people who choose our leaders as they become pro-active to the programs and needs of our people.

It was a pleasurable and productive meeting when Consul General Mario de Leon, Consul Bong Carino,  local Fil-Am leaders and I met with Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R) of Bucks County. The discussion centered on strengthening relations with the U.S. in the light of China’s encoachment into the Philippine-held Spratley Islands, west of Palawan, veterans’ issues and care of Ameriasian children. I thank all of you who were with the delegation that made the meeting significant.

Salamat to all of you who also attended the Independence Mass at OSAC. We were so blessed to have a large gathering in celebrating our Independence.

See you at the forthcoming Ilocano Cultural Association’s Annual Little Miss Philippines Ball this coming August 8.
