Micaelina “Mic” Isabella Carter was recently crowned Little Miss Philippines at the gala event of the Ilocano Cultural Association of Greater Philadelphia at the Radisson Hotel in Trevose, PA.
She is the daughter of Sirikit P. Adaza and Mark R. Carter of Horsham, PA. “Mic” as she is fondly called by family and friends was born in March 13, 2002. She is 13 years old and attends Our Lady of Mercy Regional Catholic School, where she just finished 7th grade.
Recently, Micaelina was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society and elected President of the Student Council for the 2015-2016 academic year. Earlier this year, she won an award from the Patriot’s Pen for writing an essay about American Veterans. When not in school, Micaelina can be found practicing her dance moves, as she is a devoted student of ballet, jazz, lyrical, and acro. From a group of hundreds of fellow applicants attending a day-long audition, Micaelina was selected to attend the renowned Joffrey Ballet School 2015 summer intensive program in New York City. She is also a fierce athlete and has a junior Black Belt in Karate and is currently in cycle for her Senior Black Belt. She is one active young lady!
Micaelina believes in the importance of community service and is dedicated to bringing joy to the lives of others. She participates in several volunteer activities including spending time with underprivileged children at Inspiring Imagination, a non-profit charitable organization which aims to improve children’s lives by inspiring them to explore their talents and awaken their creativity.
She is a member of Young Shepherd Choir, affiliated with St. Catherine of Sienna Church, where she sings and plays the guitar at Sunday mass. This year Micaelina donated 12 inches of her long hair to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss.
At home Micaelina enjoys cooking and baking. Her baked salmon and chocolate brownies are to die for. She is also an avid reader. Her favorite books include the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan and The Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. But Micaelina reads practically everything she can get her hands on. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with friends and playing with her dogs, Lucky and Bentley. Micaelina also enjoys the outdoors and exploring new places. She loves the beach and looks forward to vacationing in the Caribbean every summer.
Micaelina is hardworking, fun-loving, quirky, and compassionate. Her favorite quote is from A. A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh, “Promise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you see, and smarter than you think.”
Micaelina is honored to have the privilege to serve as Little Miss Philippines 2015. She is proud of her Filipino heritage and is interested in learning more about Filipino culture through her service as Little Miss Philippines. She hopes to be an inspiration and role model to all young girls out there.
