This is an indication that through the years the faithfuls, the devotees and the curious all flock into Olde St. Augustine’s every year to commemorate the Feast of the Santo Nino (Fiesta ng Santo Nino which is also celebrated in the Philippines. The principal celebrant of the High Mass was Fr. Joseph Farrell, O.S.A., Vicar General, Order of St. Augustine who flew in from Rome for the celebration. Every one was very pleased to welcome him. Also present during the event were former pastors of OSAC: Fr. James McBurney and Fr. Mike Slattery who came all the way from Chicago. Consul General (New York) Mario de Leon and Mrs. Eleanor de Leon were also in attendance.
The success of this year’s event sponsored by the Filipino Advisory Group of OSAC under the leadership of Fernando Dacanay, the Bisaya Group which was a big part of it, the FIAT, the Ilocano group and the Mutya group and of course the OSAC Choir under its director Kim Barroso who gave a stunning rendition of hymns and songs. It was all because of the prayers, the hard work, the unity and the high spirits of many different groups with the parish that made this year’s event a huge success.
Thanks to all the prayers, the hard work, the unity and the high spirits of
many different groups within the parish that made this year’s event a huge success. Everyone felt the blessings of our beloved Santo Nino. Thanks also to the Augustinian community led by Fr. Bill Waters, O.S.A., pastor. A big parade followed after the Mass and everyone was blessed by the celebration.
On behalf of all the groups, Fr. Bill Waters expressed his heartfelt gratitude for making the event memorable and successful.
